Indication
Anthelmintic (anti-worm) medication used for the treatment of intestinal worm infestations including roundworms (ascariasis), hookworms (ancylostomiasis), whipworms (trichuriasis), pinworms (enterobiasis), and tapeworms. Also used for treatment of neurocysticercosis and hydatid disease.
Ingredients
- Albendazole USP 400mg
Direction
As directed by the physician. For intestinal worms: Adults and children over 2 years — a single dose of 400mg (1 tablet), chewed or swallowed with water. May be repeated after 2-3 weeks if necessary. Take with food for better absorption. Chewable tablet may be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed and mixed with food.
Side effects
- Abdominal pain or discomfort
- Nausea
- vomiting
- or diarrhea
- Headache or dizziness
- Elevated liver enzymes (with prolonged use)
- Hair loss (reversible
- with prolonged use)
- Allergic skin reactions (rare)
Precautions
- CONTRAINDICATED in pregnancy — may cause harm to the unborn baby
- Women of childbearing age should have a negative pregnancy test before treatment
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- Monitor blood counts and liver function during prolonged treatment
- Not recommended for children under 2 years without medical supervision
- Keep out of reach of children
